With love and Fragrant Bubbles,
Last October I wrote about two awesome Air Purifiers by Winix-they are Wifi enabled and can be controlled from an App on your Smart Phone. I still think that is such a cool tech addition to what are the best Air Purifiers on the market!
In Winter, I went out to the Winix facility in Vernon Hills and had the pleasure of meeting the kind people of the US team. I think it is always wonderful to meet the passionate people behind the brand and see how much love and dedication they put into their product. They kindly showed me something that I was soooo excited about and really, really wanted to share with everyone but it was not time yet. (Forgive me for keeping secrets from you!) I can finally share!
My new favorite Tech and Home product is the Winix QS! This unit has all of the killer air purifying technology that you can Trust all Winix products to have.
The True HEPA 4-stage filtration system that utilizes a 360° All-in-One Filter captures 99.97% of the icky things you do not want in the air in your Home, such as Pet Dander, Dust, Bacteria, Mold Spores, Microbes, Pollen, and Smoke, and it will help to banish cooking odors. Thanks to the WINIX PLASMAWAVE Technology, VOCs, Odors, Gases, and Bacteria are instantly neutralized, while ZERO harmful ozones are emitted! AHAM Verified to clean a 320 sq. ft. area! Winix Air Purifiers are Energy Star Efficient to boot! Yeah, baby! Bonus-Smart Sensors monitor the Air Quality constantly, so that you can Set and Forget. The Air Quality Indicator LED light, and the filter replacement notification eliminate your guesswork!
Ok, we have covered what makes Winix the best air purifiers, so now I will tell you why I love the Winix QS. Are you ready!?
IT IS ALSO A BLUETOOTH SPEAKER!!!!!!
YUP! Dance Party at my House with the JBL Speakers on my bluetooth enabled Winix QS!
Trust me, this baby can be low volume, or go LOUD with the JBL Speakers. I am really delighted by how awesome it is! We are incredibly into music in our house and I am impressed.
Clean Air + Music= Why not throw a Dance Party while you clean? This makes mundane housework SO MUCH BETTER! I am all about life being fabulous and fun.
If you have children, the QS is such a Blessing because (I promise) children have a great time jamming out to fun tunes and cleaning. I even have a super duper fun ska song you can play on your QS to clean to. I recommend putting it on repeat!
My children LOVE cleaning to this. Maybe I love it more?
You can get your own Winix Air Purifier/Dance Party through the website, Home Depot, or Wayfair. Don't hesitate-Pick it Up, Pick it Up, Pick it Up, Today!
Hello, Darlings! Today I am continuing my series on Essential Oils and talking about more fun things to do with my favorite brand- Natures Own Essence.
As I have mentioned, my cleanliness of my home and the purity of what is in it is important to me. If you walk into my house (please do come for some tea!) you will likely notice and comment on how awesome it smells. Thanks, essential oils! :D
Peppermint is a must have for every household. It is a super energizing scent and can be used topically(on the skin). I have calmed bad stomach aches by simply rubbing some Pure Peppermint Oil onto the skin on my stomach area. I like Nature's Own Essence because their oils are pure and undiluted, woo hoo! More power!
If you are wanting to do work on your chakras, Peppermint Essential Oil is wonderful for your Throat Chakra(communication) and your Solar Plexus Chakra(Confidence, Courage, Self Control).
I have an extra bonus for you regarding Peppermint Oil-Spiders, Ants, and other household pests LOATHE it. They also can not stand White Vinegar, so I combine the two and use it as a Super Powered Household Cleaner. I use it for EVERYTHING. My counter tops, my flooring, my bathroom, my mirrors. It works like dream, smells fantastic, and keeps your home creepy crawly free. Just keep in mind to only use White Vinegar, which repels pests, while ACV(Apple Cider Vinegar) attracts them. ;) Crank some killer tunes on your Bluetooth Speaker (can I recommend the Riverdale Soundtrack?!?) Diffuse some Peppermint Oil in your diffuser while you work and you are utilizing the 'Pep' in Peppermint! Your House, The House with Pep! That is a Riverdale reference for my fellow fans and not yet fans.
All you need is a large jug of White Vinegar, which is only a couple of dollars at your local big box store, a clean empty spray bottle, and some Peppermint Essential Oil. Natures Own has two sizes you can order-2oz or 1oz. Pour your White Vinegar into your spray bottle, add 5-15 drops of Peppermint Oil, depending on the size of your bottle and your personal preference. Your cleaner is now Ready to use!
This is the only cleaner I use. I also have an issue with Migraines, and it is really nice to be able to clean my house and not only not be completely ill from the scent of my cleaner like I would with anything store bought and (toxic) ingredient based, but it is helpful. I also use Peppermint Oil topically on my forehead and neck because the numbing power from the Menthol in Peppermint is super relieving!
If you have more Oil questions, love Peppermint, Loathe Spiders, or Fan out over Riverdale, please comment below! Also, there is more information about Peppermint on the Natures Own Essence website and they have a handy chat feature!
I LOVE Essential Oils. Do you, too?
I have been using them since I was a teenager in the 90's. (That was just ten years ago, right? The 90's?) ;)
I get asked a lot "Well how do you use them?!"
There is not a short answer to that and I do not think there are many wrong answers(short of using them with caution-please do not ingest especially if you are a newbie, be certain to avoid some oils if you are pregnant((Rosemary Oil is not safe for pregnancies)), be careful using some oils directly onto your skin or going into sunlight as they may be caustic or photo sensitive, and avoid your eyes.) Other than that, go nuts. Clean air in my home is very important to me, so I keep things clean by cleaning with vinegar with a few drops of essential oil, I diffuse oils in an essential oil diffuser, and I run a good quality air purifier in my home. Boom. You can put a few drops of any oil into a spray bottle mixed with some water or witch hazel and you have an air freshener. I also love to make bath products and other things and I am happy to share some recipes with you, and other tips in this and other blogs this week for a fun series.
I use Nature's Own Essence Essential Oils, and that is what you'll be seeing in these posts. They were kind enough to send me some to review, but know this.....you can trust your friend Rachel's opinions. I only post about things that I absolutely truly love and love using for myself. Nature's Own did ask me privately what my thoughts on their oils were and I told them that they are among the best and purest that I have used. (My olfactory sense is crazy good.) They get Bonus points for having a nicely informative website with lots of good info about each oil, the region it is from, and it's uses, along with having labels on their bottles that state extraction methods and uses.
If you are looking to work on your Third Eye Chakra (used for Spiritual Insight, Wisdom, the Gift of Sight) or your Throat Chakra (Communication, Decision Making, Self Expression) Rosemary is a Great oil to work with! You can dab a small bit of the oil directly on those Chakras, though just having it diffused or using it in something such as a scrub or lotion is wonderful.
Rosemary Essential Oil in a body scrub is fantastic. Not only does it have a heavenly, spa like aroma, Rosemary is anitbacterial, is wonderful for your respiratory system, great for stress relief, and can enhance your memory. I think it really adds something to the hydrotherapy aspect of a bath or shower ;)
To make a scrub, all you need is:
Mix together in a bowl and then place in the pretty jar or container of your choice! That is it! When you are in the shower or bath, take a small handful at a time and rub in circular motions on your body, and then rinse off with cool water and pat yourself dry with a towel. If you want to make a large enough batch, these make lovely gifts.
You can purchase this Rosemary Essential Oil or any of their other amazing Essential Oils directly from their website, you can also check out their Facebook page.
Happy Sugar Scrub making!
If you are a personal friend or a loyal reader, you may know by now that I like to Forage and make nice edible things with my finds, like a Dandelion Syrup or a Lilac Jelly, even a yummy Mulberry Pie. Mulberry season is coming up, by the way!
Are you ready to see what I did with Dandelion Stems? Yes, Dandelion Stems!
I had read in a few different places that some fellow Foragers enjoy harvesting Dandelion Stems and making "Noodles". We HAD to try this!
I am going to give you the disclaimer early on, calling cooked Dandelion Stems Noodles is a complete misnomer! Trust me, I am a huge noodle fan, from wheat noodles to rice to the fun shirataki noodles. Calling them greens may be closer, though still inaccurate. The taste, to me, was almost exactly like Asparagus stems. If you love Asparagus, you will be delighted with this dish!
The Children went out with me early in the day and we had a blast harvesting. Pick only longer stems that have blooms that have already turned into the downy seed, and as always, please leave much more than you harvest. Additional foraging tips, always forage where you know chemicals are not used, and you are at least 100ft away from any car exhaust. ;)
Look at all of those beautiful stems! We have a special fondness for finding the extra wide, fused dandelion stems. It's a special tradition of ours to look for those in fields.
Little Man loves foraging so much! Bunny prefers when we go out on not as sunny days ;)
Once you have harvested an amount that you are happy with, take your bounty home. Trim off any spots as needed, and then rinse with water in a colander.
Then add salted water to a large pot, place your Dandelion Stems in, and heat to boiling. If you do not have a large pot, you can chop up your stems into more manageable pieces, though as they start to boil and soften, you can stir them and the stems will bend and fold down to your pot a la noodles, and the size of them shrinks down a la greens.
Boil for several minutes, stirring occasionally. You want to cook the Dandelion Stems until they are very soft and tender, this also helps to get some of the bitterness out.
Once done, drain out the excess water, and add Butter. I added a little bit of extra Himalayan Salt and we ate ours like that. I had requests that next time we add Parmesan Cheese and I do think they would be way better that way! We even brought a little plate of Buttered Dandelion Stems to one of our neighbors who greets us daily on our walks, and even he and his Family were surprised at how good the Stems tasted!
Who else has tried virtually every brand of deodorant out there, show of hands? I have been on the quest for an excellent natural deodorant for a crazy amount of time. Several years. Everything I tried either offered zero in the way of keeping me nice smelling, or made my skin incredibly irritated, or both.
When I decided to try BeeBomber Skincare's Probiotic Spearmint Deodorant, I was cautiously optimistic. I love owner Leann's background, which you can read about on the BeeBomber About Us page.
As soon as it arrived, I opened it up joyfully and oh my gosh it smells heavenly!!!! I applied it right away, following the suggestion on the website to apply lightly (I am used to slathering on deodorant) and loved the feel and yummy smell. Fast forward to today, I have been using this a few weeks now and will likely not ever use another brand. This deodorant has treated my skin beautifully, I smell terrific, and I feel so much better now that I have been able to ditch the chemicals.
This probiotic deodorant also comes in Lemongrass and Lavender scents!
I am so pleased to be teaming up with BeeBomber to host a Giveaway on Instagram! The Winner will win one BeeBomber Probiotic Deodorant in their choice of scent! Head over to my Instagram, check out the post and rules, and enter! Good Luck! I know the winner will be very happy!
This post was sponsored by Orca Bay, though all opinions are my own.
Merry Fishmas! I have the final recipe for the Feast of the Seven Fishes!
I used one of my favorite fish from Orca Bay, the Alaska Sockeye Salmon. I lived in Alaska for a few years, in fact both Bunny and Fox were born there. It was so nice getting to enjoy the fresh Seafood while living there, and now, the next best thing is being able to order Seafood from Orca Bay as they offer flash frozen fish. (The only way to go when having frozen Seafood!)
We love retro themed things in our house, and a fun way to bring that style to the table at the Holidays is this Retro Salmon Mousse. I got my mold at a thrift shop and consistently see them available so I know that you will be able to score one for yourself as well! (Typically for around $3-$5)
This recipe has a few more ingredients and steps than the other Fishmas recipes I have posted, but they are easy, and this kitschy crowd pleaser is worth it!
Here is what you will need.
Would you look at that? How beautiful is the Sockeye? Just look at it!
To start this fun adventure, you are going to Poach your Salmon. I did mine for only a few minutes, skin side down so the skin was nice and Poached and there was still some yummy pieces withe bright beautiful color.
For Poaching, take a small pan and line the bottom with half of your fresh Dill, and your Lemon slices. These are going to be an aromatic platform for your Salmon, so that your Salmon is gently and effectively steamed. Next, slowly pour in your White Wine and your Water, and heat over medium high heat until your Salmon is cooked to your liking. (Though please do not overcook, you want the flavors to shine through!)
Take your Salmon and lightly chop in your Food Processor or Blender. Not a puree, just a chop job so you have good little chunks and flakes of Salmon.
Grease your Fish Mold and set aside. Place your Gelatin in a bowl, and soften with the 1/4 cup of Cold Water, then add your 1/2 cup of Boiling Water, stirring well until the Gelatin has dissolved.
Whisk in your Mayonnaise, Sour Cream, Lemon Juice, other 1/2 of Dill, and Salt (to taste).
Stir in your Salmon, and then fold in your Whipped Cream.
Pour your creamy dreamy mixture into your Fish Mold! Chill in fridge for at least two hours, or even overnight if you want to make this the day ahead of your Holiday Party!
To unmold, warm the bottom of the mold with a little warm water. Hold your platter over the mold and invert onto your platter. Make certain that your plate is centered with where you want your Salmon Mousse to be, or you get the look of a Salmon Mousse swimming upstream like I did. (If something goes terribly awry, you have the option of stirring up your Mousse and placing it in ramekins or a decorative bowl and no one has to know! ;) Your guests can scoop Mousse right from the platter or bowls, or you can pre make pretty plates with the Salmon Mousse on Crackers. However you serve it, this will be a favorite! We all love it here at our house!
I hope that you love this, and I hope that you have enjoyed all Seven Nights of Fish with me! Merry Fishmas!
This post was Sponsored by Orca Bay, however all opinions in this post are my own.
OH MY GOSH THIS COD! Darlings! Here I am with dish 6 for you out of the 7 for my Feast of the Seven Fishes series.
Cod is a soft, naturally buttery white fish. Orca Bay beautifully prepares and packages up this wonderful, Wild Caught Cod for you and delivers it right to you with Seafood Direct, yeah! I am so obsessed.
I thought that the perfect accompaniment to something as simple as Cod would be Brown Butter. There is no specialty shopping needed for brown butter-simply sautee the butter in your pan beforehand a couple of extra minutes until it turns from its natural pale hue to a deeper, rich brown. This gives a nice flavor enhancement, very simple, delicious, and still child friendly.
All you need for this easy peasy loved by children Brown Butter Cod is
Take your Green Beans, and trim ends off if necessary. Set a pot of salted water on to boil, and then add your Green Beans, cooking until they are at your desired crispness. Strain, and set aside on your plate or platter.
I took a good filet knife and cut my Cod up into cubes. Well, it would be cubes if I was a master with my kitchen knives, but basically my pieces resembles cubes. ;) Cut your Cod cubes while your 1/4 of butter is browning in your pan.
Toss your Cod into your pan. They will start to get nice and golden on one side right away, gently stir your Cod after a minute, and then repeat, making sure to get all sides, and do not overcook-this process only takes a few minutes until perfection, and you want your Cod to remain soft and buttery.
Guess what?!? That is it! At this point I had Bunny and Fox once again talking about how good the kitchen smelled and is it time yet?
Plate your Cod over your Green Beans and serve up your smiles! Someone at our house took the whole platter!
See you tomorrow for a final dish that has an overload of retro charm ;)

Hello, Darlings! I have recipe 4 of 7 of my Feast of the Seven Fishes series. This one would make a lovely appetizer at the start of your Holiday meal, or would also be nice served a little later with some nice Chardonnay. I used Orca Bay Golden Crab to make a stunning and simple Golden Crab Flatbread.
You can order Seafood Direct right from there website and it will be delivered right to you!
Golden Crab has a wonderful, buttery texture. So yummy!
I have two secrets for you. 1.) This dish takes almost no work aside from shelling the Golden Crab. 2.) Bunny and I snuck into the kitchen before the boys and stuffed ourselves on this Crab Flatbread. Ssshhhh......
Here is all that you need:
The only work you need to do with your Golden Crab is thaw it out, I did so in my fridge overnight, and then shell using your kitchen sheers. (At this point I am a pro at this and the process only takes me a few minutes!) I say take your time if you want, play your favorite music and enjoy the process.
Pre Heat your Oven to 400 degrees.
Roll out your flatbread onto a baking sheet.
Trim your Asparagus to your desired length, and saute over medium until it reaches just about your preferred softness/texture, keeping in mind that these babies will be going in the oven.
Spread your Sauce onto your Flatbread. I use the back of a ladle to spread my sauce, I saw the method being used on pizza sauce once as a kid and it stuck with me.
All you have left to do is sprinkle your Asparagus and Crab pieces on generously over your Flatbread! Fun!
Bake in your oven for 15 minutes until the edges of your flatbread are golden, crispy, and bubbly! Slice however you like, and serve! Or....eat in secret. ;)
