We have all seen that stunning, purple hued drink floating around Pinterest. Some use sugar, and some use dye.
My recipe uses neither, although if you want a more colorful drink, a lovely and talented Chef friend of mine, Katherine of Mr. &Mrs P's Eatery suggests steeping in some blueberries!
I used a couple of lemons, and suggest that you tailor it to your taste, some prefer a super sour lemonade, and others mild. My tastes run both ways, this time I went with mild. I also used several stems of dried organic lavender. Fresh would also work wonderfully, though it is not yet season here so I only had dried on hand. Lavender is super easy to grow, you can also order culinary grade online.
Take your lemons, and slice them up in whichever fashion makes you happy. I promise that you can not go wrong. Toss them into a large pot or pan, along with 4 cups of water, 1 cup of honey, and your lavender stems and buds.
Bring to a boil, and then lower your heat to the lowest setting, and allow to simmer for 20 minutes. At this time I let it all steep and cool down for 20 more minutes because I really wanted the lavender to be a present flavor.
Strain, and pour over ice into your pitcher or dispenser of choice, adding more water if necessary, and extra lemon slices if it pleases you. This is super easy to make, and has such a fantastic flavor, I think it may be your new favorite Spring and Summer drink as well!
Drink away! I prefer my drinks to be virgin, if you like to get a bit sassy with your beverages, add in a dash of a good gin such as Hendrick's or Blue Coat.
