It is finally here, September! This has always been a special time of year for me. Back to school, the pre holiday season, the last special few months before the New Year. The promise of special new beginnings and new traditions.
We have started a new a new mini tradition in our family of visiting a different small town each month and having lunch. This is not only yummy fun, but for us serves the double purpose of scouting towns to purchase a home in. It makes what is an exhausting task much more fun and laid back. Saturday we check out another town, wish us luck!
Sunday, September 10th is Grandparents Day! I suggest celebrating by cooking a special meal for your favorite Grandparents.
September 22nd is the Autumnal Equinox, a traditional favorite for us Fall babies and Fall fans in general.
This Autumn we want to try to visit one of our local apple orchards, and then can a large batch of apple sauce, maybe even some apple pie filling? Do you have a favorite way to prepare apples?
Enjoy your September!
It is finally here! JUNE!!! Yay for Summer! Summer is awesome anywhere, but most especially for us in the Midwest and those on the East Coast.
I had a difficult time narrowing down my to do list for this entry, because really, my list of things I want to do and celebrate in June is huge!
Here are 4 that I am pretty gosh darn excited about!
We love to get out for walks and hikes, and I find mixing it up important. For this month, I plan on checking out the options for Riverwalks around us.
Garage Sales! My little Bunny and Fox have inherited my spirited passion for finding good deals on neat things. They are both early risers like me, and during the Summer months they love to get up on weekends and head out to see what we can find in the neighborhood. It is such a simple activity that brings a lot of joy, big smiles, and is great family bonding.
Last Summer we hand filled water balloons and had quite the splashy good time in the backyard! The next time we do a water balloon fight, I want to make even more of a day of it. I think teams with colored T shirts or with team names written on them would be neat. Do you have a system for water balloon fights?
As a part of our homeschooling curriculum we work on all kinds of stories, including Tall Tales. Most recently we have worked on Pecos Bill and Paul Bunyan, and I was very excited to learn that June 28th is National Paul Bunyan day! We will be revisiting the story of Paul Bunyan by checking out books from the library, watching the couple of movies that I know of about him, making a giant sized stack of flapjacks, and maybe making a Babe craft? If you can think of anything creative to do, please let me know in the comments!
I always find May to be such a blissful month. Spring is in full effect, flowers are blooming, trees are looking lush, and everyone is in a great mood.
Yesterday I decided to start a 40 day Kundalini program, so daily yoga it is! I have always loved the practice of yoga, and as I am somewhat of a purist to the practice, Kundalini fits beautifully into my life. Wish me luck with each of the 40 days, I will post about my yogic journey at the end of it! Do you have a preferred yoga practice?
Reading four new books will be easy, choosing which titles is more of a challenge. My best friend and I both recently read Ocean at the end of the Lane by Neil Gaiman, I recommend it and can not wait to read more of his work!
After our recent dandelion foraging and syrup making, I went out and got pectin, woo hoo! Up next to make are dandelion jelly and lilac jelly, maybe even mint. My herb garden has sprang back to life thanks to all of the great midwest rain we have had lately!
My challenge will be making a killer virgin Mint Julep! If it turns out well, you can count on a mint julep blog post. <3
Will you try any of these out this month? What fun ideas do you have?
Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy! April is here!
April Showers are one of my very favorite things, especially as I live in Illinois, which is host to the most glorious thunderstorms.
For the month of April, I put together a short list of four tasks to enjoy! Is your list for April similar? What will you try or do?
I will be blogging a couple of my tasks, check back in, soon!
One of my new favorite things to do is making decorative to do lists! I am a long standing devotee of creating organized lists for everything I need to do from grocery shopping to party tasks. Who doesn't love lists?
On the first of each month, I will be sharing my fun list of things to do for that month. Part of the joy in this is that the list items are not serious tasks, but lighthearted activities meant to help make each month special. Another thing that makes this fun is that it is a zero stress activity, pretty zen! I wrote out my list, then doodled out a few little drawings and enhanced my letters. Easy art.
For this month, I have:
What will be on your fun to do list for the month of March?
